Understanding Sherburne County Jail Release
A person who leaves the Sherburne County Jail locator has left that current-custody display. The change does not reveal what happened next. A local detainee may go to the community after bail, recognizance, sentence completion, dismissal, or a court order. Another person may move to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE. The Sheriff’s booking and release data can identify the date, legal basis, and receiving agency when those fields are public. That record is the strongest local source for distinguishing a true release from a handoff.
The system that owns the next event matters. MN DOC records cover people committed to the commissioner, not every short county-jail stay. Court records explain orders and case outcomes but may not show the moment jail processing ended. VINE reports custody events from participating county facilities. BOP covers federal prison records, while ICE uses its own locator. Each source answers a smaller, more precise question than a missing name on the roster.
- Time served
- The jail credits enough custodial time to complete the confinement term.
- Supervised release
- Prison confinement ends, but the person remains under correctional supervision.
- Probation
- A court orders community supervision, which may occur without a state-prison term.
- Discharge
- A sentence or supervision obligation ends, unless another case still controls custody.
Sherburne County Release Paths
Release labels should be read with care. They describe why one custody event ended, not the full status of every case. Bond does not decide a charge. A sentence-complete entry does not rule out probation or another warrant. Even the word “release” can describe the county giving physical custody to a different authority. The receiving agency field often supplies the key fact.
| Release path | Meaning | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Cash bail, bond, or recognizance | Physical jail custody ends under the applicable security or court terms. | MCRO order and Sheriff release record |
| Time served or sentence complete | The credited county confinement term ends. | Court disposition and any supervision record |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The court case has a disposition that should be read in the filed order. | MCRO and the court file |
| Transfer to another agency | The person remains in custody elsewhere. | MN DOC, receiving county, USMS, or ICE |
| Supervised or conditional release | State-prison confinement ends while legal supervision continues. | MN DOC public viewer |
| Expiration or final discharge | The listed sentence obligation ends, though another case may still apply. | DOC record and court files |
A deceased status must not be treated as ordinary release. Escape, absconding, or a violation warrant also does not mean lawful completion. When a brief code is unclear, request the full public field and compare it with the controlling court order.
Sherburne County Release Record Fields
There is no single universal Minnesota release certificate. At Sherburne County Jail, the event usually sits within the booking and custody record. A precise request identifies the booking and names the fields needed. This avoids asking the county to create a new report or gather data it does not maintain.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Identity and booking number | Links the event to the correct person and booking. |
| Booking date and time | Marks the start of the recorded jail stay. |
| Release date and time | Records when the jail’s custody event ended. |
| Release category or disposition | States the coded basis, such as bond, court order, time served, or transfer. |
| Releasing court and case number | Connects the jail event to the controlling case and order. |
| Bail or bond details | Shows the amount and form posted when those facts are public. |
| Warrant or hold disposition | Shows whether another legal restraint affected departure. |
| Receiving agency | Separates community release from a transfer to another custodian. |
The public booking photograph may be requested with the same booking identifier. Private or confidential data can be redacted. Medical, juvenile, victim, and active investigative data may have separate access rules, so a public release timestamp does not open the whole file.
Request Sherburne County Release Records
The Sheriff-specific data request is the direct fallback when the roster no longer shows a booking. Minnesota Statutes § 13.82 makes the date, time, and legal basis for an adult release public at the originating law-enforcement agency. It also covers the date, time, legal basis, and recipient of a custody transfer. Requests should seek existing public fields, not a custom explanation.
- Collect the full legal name, date of birth or booking number, case number, and a focused date range.
- Use the Sheriff Data Requests page and choose inspection, copies, or both.
- List the booking time, release time, legal basis, release disposition, transfer recipient, status history, and public booking photo needed.
- Keep the response and cited legal basis for any denial or redaction. Compare the result with the court or receiving agency record.

The county states that inspection is free. For 100 or fewer black-and-white letter or legal pages, the listed rate is $0.25 per one-sided page or $0.50 per two-sided sheet. Other media can carry authorized actual costs, and prepayment may be required. The Sheriff fee schedule lists photo reprints at $3. These rates concern copies, not access to inspect public data.

Sherburne Release Records Under Chapter 13
Minnesota’s Government Data Practices Act begins with a presumption that government data is public unless another law classifies it otherwise. Section 13.03 provides for inspection, copies, and a legal citation when access is denied. Section 13.82 supplies the core adult arrest, transfer, release, and booking-photo fields. Section 13.85 separately governs corrections data, so the public part of a DOC record is not the whole offender file.
Minnesota Chapter 609A generally seals qualifying records rather than destroying every government file. A sealed or expunged event may therefore vanish from remote public access even though an agency keeps restricted data. MCRO can also omit older, restricted, or nonelectronic material. A missing result is not proof that no booking or case existed. The safe course is to respect the access limit and use the agency’s correction or court process.
Note: Sherburne County publishes no fixed retention period for a released booking on its live locator, so roster absence cannot date the release.
When Sherburne County Releases Happen
A bond payment or judge’s order is not the physical release time. Sherburne County states that staff must receive authorization and complete release processing before the person leaves through the jail lobby. The wait changes with the time of day and the number of people being processed. No fixed exit hour should be promised.
The county’s bail and bond release information shows where the physical exit occurs and why timing can vary.
The local process explains why a court docket time, payment time, VINE notice, and Sheriff release timestamp may differ without being contradictory.
Sherburne County Bail Release Rules
Under Sherburne County’s posting bail and bond rules, cash bail can be posted at jail lobby Door D at any hour. Sherburne requires exact cash and current government photo identification; checks and cards are not accepted. The jail can provide the amount at 763-765-3800 when given the person’s full name and date of birth. Processing still follows after payment, so the transaction time should not be recorded as the release time.
Community Corrections performs local bail studies through its Pre-Trial Unit and may supervise conditional pretrial release. That status means the person is outside physical jail custody under court-set terms. It is not the same as probation after conviction or supervised release after a state-prison term. The court order and Sheriff event record should be paired when the legal basis and actual exit time both matter.
Sherburne Release Planning After Jail
Sherburne County runs a voluntary Release Advance Planning program for qualifying county residents who have an established release date and at least 14 jail days remaining. Nonresidents and pretrial clients may be considered case by case. The plan uses follow-ups at 14, 30, 60, and 90 days, which makes it a local transition program rather than a custody-search system.
A RAP “discharge” after the 90-day follow-up describes completion of that program. It is not the legal release code for the jail stay and should not be entered as the person’s custody discharge date. The Sheriff release timestamp, court order, and any DOC or supervision record remain the sources for that event.
Sherburne Release Funds and Property
Under the jail’s inmate account policy, release or transfer closes the person’s account and the balance is provided by check or debit card. That step helps explain what someone may receive while leaving the building. Yet account closure is not proof of return to the community because Sherburne uses the same process for a transfer. The record must still identify the destination.
Account details are available only to the incarcerated person. Family members should not treat the form of payment, a call from the lobby, or a missing locator entry as a substitute for the official release event. For a transfer, the receiving agency’s system becomes the next place to confirm custody.
Search Sherburne County Released Inmates
A search should move from the last known custodian toward the most likely next system. Start with the county locator only to determine whether the person remains on its current list. Then use the court, notification, DOC, federal, or immigration channel that fits the case. Preserve exact identifiers because names alone can join two different people.
- Check the Sherburne County Jail locator. A current entry indicates the person is still shown in county custody.
- If the name disappeared, search MCRO by court file number or exact name for bail, release, dismissal, sentence, commitment, warrant, or probation entries.
- Check Minnesota VINE for the county custody event. Use the MN DOC public viewer if commitment or state supervision is possible.
- For a federal matter, check BOP after designation or use the federal case. For immigration custody, search ICE promptly.
- Request the Sheriff’s release date, time, legal basis, and receiving agency when the online sources do not settle the question.
The county locator has no verified 24-hour or 72-hour release view. A defined time-window request is the supported substitute for a recent-release list. Details on that fallback appear under Released Last 24 Hours.
MN DOC Sherburne Release Search
The MN DOC public viewer applies to people under Minnesota DOC jurisdiction. The complete six-digit OID is the strongest key. Name searches can also work, including names associated with convictions, but identifiers must be compared before accepting a match. A county-only jail stay may never appear.
| Search or result field | Use |
|---|---|
| OID | Separates namesakes and anchors a DOC records request. |
| Name and AKA history | Supports identity matching across conviction records. |
| Current status | Distinguishes prison, supervision, or another displayed DOC state. |
| Facility or supervising context | Shows where DOC responsibility is being carried out. |
| Sentence and offense data | Connects the result to the controlling court matter. |
| Anticipated Release Date | Shows a prospective date for an incarcerated record, not proof of actual release. |
| Expiration or supervision date | Helps distinguish release from final discharge when displayed. |
The captured MN DOC public viewer shows the official Minnesota search interface used for a Sherburne County release that moved into DOC custody.
A DOC appearance after county roster removal can prove a transfer rather than community release. If the public result lacks enough history, request the public release or discharge fields from DOC Records Management with the OID and date range.
Court Records After Sherburne Release
Sherburne criminal matters belong to Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District. MCRO’s register of actions can outlive the live jail entry and show bail, release conditions, dismissal, sentencing, commitment, warrants, probation discharge, or expungement-related events. The filed order is more reliable than a short docket label, but even the order may precede actual jail exit while staff complete identity, hold, account, property, and paperwork checks.
The official MCRO case-search form allows a search by the available person or case details.
Remote access may omit sealed, expunged, older, restricted, or nonelectronic material. Sherburne District Court terminals and file access can be broader, so a blank online result should not be read as proof that no court event exists.
Sherburne Release Supervision and Notices
A state-prison release may continue under MN DOC supervision. Minnesota generally calls this supervised release for modern determinate sentences, while parole applies to narrower life and legacy groups. Probation comes from a court and may follow a county case without a state-prison commitment. The DOC viewer can display an “Under Supervision as of” date and supervising agency for a person who remains under its jurisdiction. Local probation questions route to Sherburne County Community Corrections.
Minnesota VINE is the county-jail notification path. It is free and anonymous, and the state says participating jail updates often arrive every 15 or 30 minutes. The service can alert on a selected person’s event, but its notice should be checked against the Sheriff record when exact time or legal basis matters. State prison and community-supervision notifications use MN DOC Haven instead. The distinctions and verification steps are covered in the Sherburne County Parole / Probation resource.
Note: The public registrant search covers only the limited group authorized for public disclosure and is not a general release database.
Sherburne Release or ICE Transfer
Sherburne’s regional jail holds local detainees as well as ICE, USMS, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other agency populations. Its official overview lists 732 beds and reports an average daily federal population above 500. That federal role makes the receiving-agency field unusually important. A county “release” under an ICE detainer can be a direct handoff, not a return home.
For ICE, use the Online Detainee Locator with an A-number and country of birth, or with exact name, birth date, and country of birth. Sherburne says the tool covers current ICE detention and people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. An ICE release result still may reflect bond, an agency or judge’s order, transfer, or removal. Pair it with the Sheriff transfer recipient and immigration case status.
USMS has no comparable general public person locator. A federal detainee housed at Sherburne may not yet have a BOP record. Use the federal docket and county movement record, then check BOP after sentencing or designation. BOP results cover federal prison custody, not every contract-jail stay.
Where Sherburne Release Records Appear
The same name can appear in one system and vanish from another because each database has a different scope. The key is to choose the row that matches the last known legal custodian. A result from one row does not rule out custody in another.
| Source | Best use | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Sherburne jail locator | Current county custody | No verified recent-release archive or retention window |
| Sheriff release record | Exact local release or transfer event | Requires a focused request after the roster entry drops |
| MCRO | Court order, disposition, sentence, and public docket events | Not a live physical-custody system |
| MN DOC viewer | State prison, release, and continuing DOC supervision | Does not cover ordinary county-only stays |
| Minnesota VINE | County-jail event alerts for one selected person | Notification timing is not a certified release timestamp |
| BOP locator | Federal prison status and past release date | Does not cover every USMS contract-jail detainee |
| ICE locator | Current detention and qualifying recent ICE release | Does not by itself explain transfer, removal, or community return |
Is a missing name proof of release? No. It is a signal to identify the next custodian. The Sheriff’s release or transfer fields and the receiving system provide the documentary answer.
Sherburne County Release Facilities
Three local custody paths require different records. Sherburne County Jail uses county booking and release data. MCF–St. Cloud is a state prison and intake facility, so its custody changes belong in MN DOC records. ICE detention occurs at the county jail building, but immigration custody is checked through ICE and the Sheriff’s transfer record.
